This is an "interesting", if not irrelevant, comparison between the E300 saloon and the 535i GT. One is a traditional 4-door sedan, the other is a hatchback tall SUV. Space-wise, borrowed from the 7-series short-wheel-base sedan platform and chassis, the 535i GT has bigger interior room than the E300, making it a more spacious and comfortable car for the passenger. Of course, with bigger interior comes bigger exterior, so you will have some hard time parking your 535i GT at tight parking spots. Handling and Ride Comfort, it's typical BMW vs. Benz. Benz's suspension is softer, making the ride more comfortable. The 535i GT has the performance figures to back up it's BMW's namesake, but it has more to do with electronics components assistance than the physical mechanism. After all it's a car that weight almost 5000 lbs. The car can turn fast, but you can feel every single pound of it. It's definitely not as nimble as a 3 or 5 series. Engine and Fuel Consumption. You have to give full credit to BMW on this one. With the new generation of N55 model engine (Inline 6, 3000cc, SINGLE turbo, unlike the twin-turbo on the 335i, Z4 3.5i and X6 3.5i. If you asked me to pick between the two, I will get the 535iGT.
